So the first weekend in April found us attending our first ever Saluki Con – dubbed Eclipse con this year. It was amazing! From set up to break down, we had an excellent experience as vendors, and we think attendees had quite the bit of fun too!
We set up late Friday evening with a table full of goodies. The show started Saturday at 10:00 AM, and by 1:00 PM we were starting to wonder if we would have enough products to make it to the end of the day … nevermind the next day!
After the show at 5:00PM, we grabbed dinner and raced home (about a 1 hour drive in total) and got to working our tushies off to try to make as many extras as we could to try to somewhat fill out the table for Sunday! Finished in that flurry of an evening were several chickens, baby Yodas, 2 Slackoths (that I had been slacking off on finishing…) and a few misc goodies.
Sunday was just as fun, and despite having much, much less on our table, we still did really well! We completely knocked our predicted goals over and then ran right over them… leaving us with a new record high! Fun for us of course, but what REALLY made the event a great one was all the super happy and super excited people we met!
Making crochet and wood goodies is fun certainly, but it is not a get-rich-quick-able scheme. Many hours go into an item, and after all is said and done, we basically price it at the cost of materials and then a flat fee based on how difficult it was. An item that takes 10 hours could be priced the same as one that takes 2 hours, for example. The main thing we go for is having FUN when doing it! It warms my heart and makes up for not making as much as I *could* when I see how delighted people are when they see our things, and how happy they seem to be when they realize it is not outside of their means for a fun purchase!
Cheesy perhaps, but it makes the whole thing worth doing!
With that being said, we have one more show to finish up and be done for the Summer, and that is at the Benton Con! This will be our second year in attendance, and it will hopefully be just as fun as last year! Make sure to join us!
